Troop 140'S Annual

 * * Holiday Wreath Sale * *

The wreath sale is the largest fund raising event of the year for our troop. For almost 40 years, it has grown more and more successful and we are sure this year you will continue the tradition. We need the funds this event brings in to maintain the level of Scouting activities we have come to appreciate and enjoy.

During the past year we have had many special events ... High Adventures to Philmont and elsewhere, summer camp at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation , and week-end camp-outs and outings every month of the year. Most of the troop participated in one or more of these events. The year ahead promises to be just as exciting. A "BEST EFFORT" now will make it possible for you to just "TROOP FUND" event fees and food later. In short, a great deal of the success of the coming year's activities rests on the achievements of each Scout and his family's Holiday wreath sales.

Please read this section and discuss it with your parents and talk over the ideas presented. However, if you need clarification on any part of this sale, please contact Mr. Lyon.

HOW THE WREATH SALE WORKS

  1. Each Scout who wishes one is given a sales territory that is his alone at the start of the sale. A Scout is trustworthy. All Scouts must honor their territorial boundaries until Monday, October 22th. During this time, Scouts can sell to any business and close family relatives - BUT not to neighbors if you are live in someone else's territory. As in the past we encourage the Scout's parents to get involved with the sale, take orders from co-workers, friends, and out-of-town relatives. Scouts can keep their territory from year- to- year if they sell over 40 units.
  2. Scouts get out and sell! Sell your territories! Sell at parent’s work! Sell to businesses!
  3. Each Monday, Scouts turn in total sales results to the troop ON THE ENVELOPES PROVIDED. If any payments are received these are also turned in. Make sure you count the money and write the amount on the outside of the envelope in the space provided. It is very important that you report your sales AND turn in cash and checks each week. Please DO NOT hold onto all cash and checks until the end! Early delivery sales end on November 12th. All sales end on November 19th.
  4. On Tuesday, October 23th sales territories open up. Now you can sell anywhere.
  5. Some customers, such as businesses, may want their wreaths early. Early delivery arrangements can be made. Scouts with early delivery needs may pick up their wreaths on Saturday, November 17th . Help will be needed to pick up early delivery wreaths. Scouts who assisted with wreath pickup will get to pick up their orders first.
  6. On Saturday, November 24th, as many cars, trucks, and trailers as possible will head out between 7:30 to pick up all the troops order. Wreaths will be given to Scouts in an orderly fashion with Scouts who assisted in pick up going first.
  7. Scouts deliver the wreaths and receive payment for wreaths not yet paid for.
  8. Payment is turned at Troop meetings in TROOP ENVELOPE with dollars enclosed counted and marked as AMOUNT ENCLOSED on the outside. Scouts will receive a receipt for the amount noted on the envelope. The envelop will then be double checked to confirm the amount. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS! We will try to keep a running total of what has been turned in for each Scout at each meeting.
  9. Hopefully, the wreaths should be delivered, paid for and the money turned in by December 10th.

TROOP FUND - BONUSES - FREE BREWER GAME OUTING

The Troop Fund

The money that Troop 140 receives from the wreath sale goes to help the troop in two ways. Some of the money goes into the troop's general fund and is used to do such things as: purchase equipment, maintain the bus, and help new Scouts go to summer camp. But in addition to the money that goes back to the troop, each Scout receives a portion of the profit from each wreath or unit of roping sold in the form of a credit to his very own "Troop Fund." We believe that with work a Scout can finance most, if not all, of his costs for the monthly outings, summer camp and high adventure throughout the coming year. Money in his Troop Fund can also be used to buy scouting related equipment, such as tents, uniforms, and backpacks. The following chart shows the pricing/troop fund breakdown for the different wreath sizes and lengths of roping:

The Bonus - PART I

A bonus will be awarded to each Scout selling 25, 50, 70, or more units. The bonus is credited to all units the Scout sells. This means that once a certain level is sold, every unit the Scout sells back to the first one will be counted at the higher rate. Brothers will be credited on the basis of all units sold by the family.

Free Outing - PART II

Each Scout who sells 40 or more units will be eligible for a FREE Brewer game (including tailgate party). (Brothers MUST go over 40 individually.)

BOWS

All wreaths will be decorated with pine cones and red holly beads. The bows for the wreaths are different. The same size plastic bow will be used for all wreaths from 22 inches to 36 inches in diameter. Velvet bows will be used for the 42 inch (1), 48 inch (2), and 60 inch (2) wreathes and for the 30 inch Candy Cane (1)..

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

SALES TIPS & THINGS TO REMEMBER

  1. Tell the people to whom you sell a wreath when you will deliver. Better yet tell them you will call first.
  2. Have the people fill in the form for the order. It makes it easier for them to remember the order later.
  3. Offer early delivery. Indicate units needed for early delivery on your envelope.
  4. Practice your sales presentation until you know it by heart.
  5. Remember, a Scout is Friendly, Courteous, Trustworthy, and Cheerful. If someone decides not to buy, thank them for their time - It does not hurt and you are representing the whole Troop.

YOUR SALES PRESENTATION

One of the most important part of selling wreaths is to have a good practiced sales presentation. Below is the type of presentation that most Scouts find work best.

Do not wear your Class A uniform. Any other non-official scout item is OK.

Hello and Season's Greetings! My name is _______________ and I am a Boy Scout in Troop 140 right here in Middleton. Our Troop is selling Holiday and Holiday wreaths and roping again this year to help us Scouts earn money for campouts and equipment.

We have wreaths to sell that range in size from 22 inches up to 60 inches. The 26 inch size is a good size for most front doors. It sells for only $19.00. We are also offering beautiful balsam roping in 25 foot and 50 foot lengths. This is a heavier roping that looks wonderful.

If you place your order now, I'll deliver the order to your door the weekend right after Thanksgiving, starting November 29th. We can also arrange for early delivery starting on November 22nd if you would like. You can pay me now, or when I deliver. Thank you.

RECORD OF SALES & RECEIPTS FOR CASH TURNED IN

The Envelopes

The envelopes supplied with this packet are used to both report sales and turn in cash and checks. A completed envelope is needed Each and every Monday evening during the sale from each Scout to keep track of total numbers and sizes of wreaths and roping. Regular turn-in of cash will also prevent checks from becoming dated. On the envelope, report the TOTAL SALES for each unit sold TO DATE, not just the past week. For example if you sell one 22" wreath the first week, report one 22" wreath on October 8. If you sell another 22" wreath the second week, report two 22" wreaths on October 15.  If you are unable to attend a meeting please call after the regular meeting time. Always remember to pre-count and write the dollar amount of any money being turned in on the outside of the envelope.

Cash Receipts

When you turn in an envelope with cash in it, you will receive a receipt to help you keep track of money turned in. Always make sure to get a receipt. Save your receipts! If there is any questions about money turned in it will help track down the concern.

The Order Forms

The forms provided in the packet are to be used to take orders from your customers. They are self-explanatory. On a weekly basis, transfer the information from the order forms to the envelopes and turn in. REMEMBER, the order form is your record of sale and delivery address - Don't Lose Them!

Good Neighbor Fest

Thank you for another successful event.  Watch the calendar for next years timeline for the GNF.

Again, thanks and good work.

Salt Drive

Salt delivery occurs every first Saturday morning of the month. Scouts are assigned routes to delivery the salt bags to homes in the Middleton area. Each route is paid the certain amount depending on the number of salt bags delivered. The money is placed in the Scouts Troop account for use in future outings.

If you are interested in a salt route or have questions contact Mr. Hinkens.
